Hook and pull action slices entangled lines from your prop or rudder!
As
a boater for many years, I have managed to foul my prop, rudder, and keel on more
than one occasion. Half submerged lobster pots, floating line, rope, plastic bags,
fishing line, and assorted other flotsam have fouled most boaters' underwater gear
at one time or other. Quite often the only way to clear the situation is to go into
the water and swim UNDER THE BOAT with a knife and cut away the offending material.
This usually involves significant time, effort, and the use of both hands—all of
which put you at great bodily risk. This is extremely dangerous, and the slightest
bit of wave action makes it even more so. Being in the water is one thing, but being
UNDER THE BOAT is quite another. It is because of these experiences, and clearly
out of necessity, that the HOOKNIFE was invented.
More about the HOOKNIFE
- The HOOKNIFE Eliminates the Need to Go Under the Boat - The HOOKNIFE
is a specially designed tool that enables the user to reach under the boat with
a one-handed motion. In most cases, there is NO NEED TO GO UNDER THE BOAT and
endanger yourself. You may not even have to get in the water if your dingy is
handy. If you do have to get into the water, that time will be very limited.
The HOOKNIFE snaggs the entangled line and slices it quickly with a pull or
two. This tool may save your life!!
- Construction -
Fabricated from the finest 420 series Stainless Steel,
the HOOKNIFE has three extremely sharp cutting edges. Two oppose one another
and form a "V", which is the beauty of this tool. The third sharp edge is in
line with the handle and permits the tool to be used as a standard cutting blade.
The HOOKNIFE itself is secured in a fitting with convenient detachable 13" handle.
Supplied in semi-rigid plastic case.
The HOOKNIFE comes equipped with a triple anodized aluminum adapter that fits
the popular handles made by Shurhold® & Swobbit®.
- Operation - Capture the offending material in the "V" (or "hook")
and pull on the handle. With one swift pull stroke the knife cuts thru the fouling
line and you're clear!!!
- An Important Tool to Have Ready - The HOOKNIFE should be stowed aboard
with other emergency equipment such as flares, fire extinguishers, and life
jackets. Often the preparation for problems and emergencies makes the difference
between being able to help yourself, versus calling and waiting for help. Avoid
being at someone else's mercy while waiting for them to come to your aid. Sending
for help should generally be your last option.
