SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE SURFACE SKYscreen
Selection Tip - Most installations allow for up to 1/2” tolerance on both the X & Y dimensions.
Identify the manufacturer of your hatch (this is not critical) and the interior design of your hatch opening.
•Do you have a Factory Installed Plastic Trim Ring… Proceed to (1)
•Do you have a Wood, Metal, or Fiberglass Trim Ring around your Hatch Opening … Proceed to (2)
•Do you have a Flush Trim Ring… Proceed to (3)
•Do you have a Hard Fiberglass or Wood… Proceed to (4)
•Do you have a Bulkhead or Headliner Fixture or a Suspended Headliner… Proceed to (5)

 Type 1 Installation - Factory Installed Plastic Trim Ring
For this installation type, you will first remove the Factory Trim Ring. Next, proceed to Standard Size Chart and compare inside dimensions of trim ring, (edge to edge of factory trim) with aperture dimensions Width (X) and Length (Y). A match should be made to within 1/8”, (or a few millimeters).
If you find a match, check that you do not have a Type 5 installation issue before ordering. You will also need to order an optional UV Stabilized PVC hatch tunnel liner.
If no match is found, a custom size may need to be ordered. Please contact AhoyCaptain for ordering information and possible options.

 Type 2 Installation - Factory Installed, Flat Wood or Fiberglass Trim Ring Around the Hatch Opening
For this installation type, you will need a 2 ¾" trim width to mount the SKYscreen on the top of the trim.
If this is the case, determine the inside dimension of your Hatch Opening (Edge to Edge) and note the Width (X) and Length (Y) and proceed to the Standard Size Chart.
If this is not the case, you have three options…
  1. Check the depth of the trim and if it is under ½" you can mount a SKYscreen over the trim by measuring the overall Width (X) and Length (Y) of the trim. Check that you do not have a Type 5 installation issue before ordering.
  2. Remove the trim and determine the inside dimension of your Hatch Opening (Edge to Edge) and note the Width (X) and Length (Y). Check that you do not have a Type 5 installation issue before ordering.
  3. Contact AhoyCaptain to receive information on the Recess SKYscreen model.

 Type 3 Installation - SKYscreen is Mounted OUTSIDE Factory Installed Flush Trim Ring
For this installation type, determine the overall Width (X)  and Length (Y) and proceed to the Standard Size Chart. Check that you do not have a Type 5 installation issue before ordering.

 Type 4 Installation - Flush Finish Trim with Hard Fiberglass or Wood Headliner
The primary fastener positions on the Surface SKYscreen are located at each corner. Check that you do not have a Type 5 installation issue before ordering.

 Type 5 Installation - Bulkhead or Fixture Obstruction and Suspended Headliners
You will need to ensure that you have material under your headliner 2" inches out from the edge of your hatch to install the SKYscreen. If sufficient material is not present, please contact AhoyCaptain for information for possible options.
The overall dimension of the Surface SKYscreen requires that you have 2 ¾" of room from the edge of your hatch opening or hatch trim on all four sides. If this is not the case please contact AhoyCaptain for information on our HATCHshade product line.
