Every boat that goes to sea should have a plan for abandoning ship.
You hope it never happens, but you can't ignore the possibility. The plan should include knowing how to make emergency calls with every radio aboard your boat and how to activate the EPIRB.It should also include knowing how to deploy the life raft, when to leave the boat for the life raft, and having a pre-packed bag of essential survival items ready to take with you. With safety being a major component of cruising, we feel everyone should have a well thought out plan for that ultimate emergency. The one item that that should be on your short list is a “ditch bag.”
